i-learn: writing Years 5 and 6 DVD-ROM

Frances Ridley, Rifat Siddiqui and Colin Hynson

Bring a stronger Talk for Writing emphasis into your teaching with this resource for developing the skills children need to write non-fiction texts

With Pie Corbett as the series editor, this non-fiction writing resource supports a whole school approach to Talk for Writing.

i-learn: writing for Years 5 and 6 features nine teaching focuses including Model Texts, Reading as a Writer, Talking the Text (speaking and listening and drama activities), Writing Games (word-, sentence- and text level work), Stimulus and Shared Planning, Demonstration and Shared Writing, Practising Editing, Independent Planning and Writing and Publishing.

A 'focus' may last half a lesson or carry over several lessons. Focuses are designed to be flexible and fit in with different styles and methods of teaching writing.
  • High quality model texts exemplify the non-fiction text types covered by the Primary Framework for literacy.
  • Speaking and listening activities are provided throughout - from ‘talking the text type’ to drama games to give children confidence in their ideas.
  • Unique author interviews give children an insight into audience and purpose.
  • A thematic approach, including popular topics such as weather, Egypt, the unexplained and newspapers.
  • Teach with our prepared lessons or create your own personalised lessons
  • Includes material for shared and demonstration writing on the interactive whiteboard and activities for individuals or groups at computers.
